Rug

Cleaning

Have your rugs lost their shine?

We love rug cleaning, as it’s another area where we can really show off our expertise.

Maybe your rug is a tired-looking machine-made shaggy rug, harbouring ancient crumbs and hidden 5-pence pieces. Perhaps it’s an exquisite hand-knotted silk masterpiece. Whatever the case may be, our bespoke rug cleaning techniques are designed to provide a thorough and rejuvenating clean.

We are not a ‘one size fits all’ style of carpet cleaner, therefore we don’t prescribe the same method for cleaning every rug. Our cleaning systems vary depending on what your rug is made of and the degree to which it has suffered. It is important for us to assess all aspects of your rug and its condition before deciding on how to tailor its clean most appropriately.

Where does the magic happen?

In certain scenarios rugs can be cleaned at your premises, but we usually prefer to clean them off-site. Off-site rug cleaning gives us more scope to do the best job we can. Pre-clean beating and air dusting procedures can be carried out more effectively. Delicate dyes can be dealt with in a controlled environment. High pile-density rugs can be speed-dried in a drying room. In short, it facilitates extensive, and hassle-free, rug cleaning. (What better kind?)

What’s more, collection and return of the rug is all part of the service for you. You can leave all the travelling from A to B to us.

Step 1

Prepare

Firstly, we need to rid the rug of any loose dirt.

In order to do so, we begin by thoroughly vacuuming both sides of it. We then beat the rug, forcibly removing any larger substances or items that may be lurking within the pile.

Lastly, compressed air is used to air dust the rug, relieving the material of smaller particles.

Step 2

Test

Next, if needs be, we carry out a dye test.

In certain rugs (traditional hand-knotted rugs, most commonly) there are loose dyes. In theses instances, dye bleed tests need to be undertaken so that any potential colour run can be avoided.

Carelessness can cause the rug to be ruined yet meticulous testing, coupled with the correct cleaning approach, will result in all colours remaining intact.

Step 3

Clean

The rug cleaning method we opt for depends on the fabric, the soiling and staining and whether there are unstable dyes, to name a few factors.

These variables determine the specialist carpet cleaning approach we will take; namely the amount and temperature of water, the strength of water pressure and the type of cleaning solutions used.

In short, our spectrum of cleaning ranges from a ‘full immersion’ soak in a bath all the way to sensitive dry-cleaning techniques for delicate materials.

Step 4

Protect

It is vital to treat the rug with anti-stain fabric protection to provide it with the best chance of maintaining its cleanliness and condition post-clean.

Using the appropriate professional protective solution for your rug, we build a resilient barrier on its surface, guarding the material against future dirt infiltration and stains.

Step 5

Dry

The density of the fibres and length of the pile is often much higher amongst rugs in comparison to fitted carpets.

As a result, we dry the rug rapidly to avoid any issues concerning bacteria growth, bad odour, dye migration and discolouration.
